A small compound rests on a beautiful, steep, wooded, limestone hillside. This site is so steep that cars must park on the roof. Three buildings, each sheathed in native limestone and lapped steel siding, skitter along a limestone ledge.

The largest of the structures contains the master suite, kitchen, dining, and living area. One crosses the deck to the studio (the owner is a renowned landscape architect and furniture designer) or to the separate guest quarters at the far end of the limestone ledge. Sloping metal roofs lean against the hillside, blending the house to the land and causing the shapes to all but disappear from above.
